How the HPAT works in boosting points
- HPAT stands for the Health Professions Admissions Test (HPAT), an aptitude-style test administered by the Australian Council for Educational Research.
- Leaving Certificate points are combined with the HPAT-Ireland score to assess entry to medicine.
- A minimum of 480 Leaving Certificate points is needed to be in contention, and the maximum HPAT score is 300.
- Each band of five Leaving Certificate points between 550 and 660 is worth only one point for the purpose of entry to medicine, meaning an effective maximum of 560.
- About 3,200 students sat the HPAT-Ireland test in February.
